Milton Keynes Library Transformation

Modern libraries are evolving into dynamic community hubs. From coding workshops and adult learning classrooms to quiet coworking zones and sensory-friendly spaces, today’s libraries are designed to serve diverse needs. Milton Keynes Central Library’s transformation reflects this shift — embracing accessibility, adaptability, and digital inclusion.

While many other councils have closed libraries since 2010, with recent analysis showing since 2016 around 20% of libraries in England have been closed, Milton Keynes has invested in libraries, opening two new ones and improving others. As one of the UK’s fastest-growing urban areas, with a population expected to exceed 300,000 by 2030, the £3.6 million investment into Central Library isn’t just a refurbishment — it’s a strategic upgrade to meet the educational, cultural, and social demands of a thriving city.

It is therefore our privilege to be supporting Milton Keynes City Library in their future-proof transformation & refurbishment.

Thanks to its distinctive modernist design and feature colonnade, the library was granted a Grade II listing in 2015. An undertaking like this therefore isn’t just about shifting shelves — it’s a choreography of logistics, preservation, and precision. Xpress Relocation’s expertise in handling sensitive IT equipment, archival materials, and modular furniture will be instrumental in completing the project with minimal disruption and maximum efficiency.

This will be an ongoing project over the next few months, and we have been working in collaboration with SJP Interiors who we highly recommend for any interior works. We look forward to announcing the finished project, but if your business is looking to undertake a refurbishment contact us today for full move management services.
